POLICE RAID HIS HOUSE

CAUGHT IN THE ACT.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 31

A raid by the detectives on premises in Tuam Street, near Madras Street, yesterday afternoon, resulted in an old Chinaman named Look Wa being charged with unlawfully having opium in his possession. Mr. Wright prosecuted for the Customs, and Sir. Hoban defended. It appears that the man was smoking opium when the. detectives burst open the door, and he had in his possession a tin of opium. When confronted by the police he, attempted to throw his pipe out of the window. Accused was remanded till Friday, bail being allowed in £SO, and one surety of £SO.
