A PITIABLE CASE.
SCARLET FEVER IN DUNEDIN.
A LAMENTABLE STATE OF AFFAIRS. Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 31. Five children, between tho ages of 0 years and 18 months have been discovered suffering from scarlet fever in a small three-roomed cottage in Dunedin. Four of tho children wero accommodated in one bed, which almost monopolised the floor space of tho apartment, which was low and sloping. The children have been ill since last Friday week. Tho dwelling is close to similar cottages, and under the circumstances isolation was impossible. Tho Health Officer, Dr. F. Ogston, reported the case to the chairman of tho Hospital Board (Mr: M. Stevenson), who sent up a trained nurse, hut the nurse declined the case unless the patients were removed to more favorable surroundings. The children have been removed to a canvas hospital for infectious cases at Lake Logan. >
