A CHARGE OF THEFT.

HALF-CASTE PLEADS. GUILTY. At the Gisborne Police Court this morning, a young half-casto named Pene Downs, who was arrested at To Karaka yesterday, was charged before the Hon. Captain Tucker and ■Mr. 11. J. Lewis, J.’s P. with stealing from a boardinghouse at Gisborne, on February 28th last, a portmanteau, containing clothing valued at £2 tho property of .Marc Kirikiri. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge, excepting certain articles alleged to bo in tho bag. Sergeant Hutton said the accused had been previously convicted for breaking and entering. The Bench sentenced the accused to two months imprisonment in the Napier .gaol.
