THE MAYORALTY.

[To tub Editor.] Sir, —In perusing the letters signed “A AVorking Man” and “Civic”, ono is impressed that the one had dictated both. In respect of tlie wonderful saving of tlio AVaihirero water supply, I remember that the gentlomaii referred to in tlio letter of “Civic” was.intensely keen on obtaining the filthy AVaimata River supply, and that with his customary dogmatism. If ho is elected 1 pity tho councillors who daro to oppose his ideas. Ono can quite believe tho council meetings, as in some other places, will be a veritable bear garden. I have heard of people having too much backbone and too much brag and no discretion. I hope those who attached their names to the requisition will bo determined to put in their candidate. No doubt thore will be plenty of bunkum published to try and captivate new-comers to our town, but for our credit it is to bo hoped we shall choose one who will be a worthy successor to the gentleman who has so long given so much of his time and talents so ungrudgingly to further tlio interests of this rapidly growing district. For the good name of our town we want as Mayor a man whose character has never been tlie subject of adverse critism. That in my humble opinion should be a first consideration in the choice of a- Mayor.— I am etc. “A CITIZEN.” Gisborne March, 2G.
