Pack Troy was to-day sentenced to 12 months’ hard labor for being a rogue and a vagabond. lie wiis described in court as a professional swagger and robber, who travelled from end to end of Southland, begging food. lie seldom worked, and farmhouse people were afraid to turn him away for four ho would burn their stacks or do other damage.
ASSAULT ON A CONSTABLE

PALMERSTON, March 17. -U the Supreme Court to-dav. ’before Mr. Justice Cooper, "William Waugh, a set-tier of iStoney Creek, was found guilty of assaulting und causing grievous bodi'lv harm to Constable Connor. The -affair.-took placo in December last, and tho constable was endeavoring to arrest Wan Hi for drunkenness, when the latter stubbed him "■•Alt a knife he had tin his hand. , i %• P- Skerrett appeared on behalf of-.ho -accused, and succeeded in knocking out .the major count of intent to cause grievous bodily harm. A largo amount of evidence u as hoard oil both sides, the case occupying the-greater part of the day. Charles Fit-ton was found 1 guilty on three counts of assaulting Win. Roach at- tho Maugaweka Kaleyards. Both accused will be brought U" for sentence to-morrow,
