FIRST LICENSE IN NEAV ZEALAND.
Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 17. An interesting addition to the collection of old New Zealand records in the Auckland Public Library has just been made, in the shape of the first publican’s license issued in the Dominion. It was granted at Korororeka (now known as Russell), to John Johnston, in the year 1840, the fee charged being £3O, and it authorises him to sell “at the sign of the Duke of Marlborough” various liquids including “ginger beer and spruce beer.”
