SUICIDE IN WANGANUI.
A WELL-KNOWN SHEEPFARAIER
Press Association. WANGANUI, March 11. William Broughton, of Fernhill, Hawke’s Bay, sheepfarmer, who was in Wanganui on a visit, was last evening found hanging from a pine tree ill front of the hotiso where he was staying at Putiki. Deceased, who is well-known in Hawke’s Bay, was a half-caste, his Maori name being Wiremu Porote te Muhinga. Ho was 52 years of age. He leaves a widow and family.
[The late Mr. Wm. Broughton was a son of Mr Broughton, of Bulls, Rangitikei. He was adopted by the late chief Renata Kawepo, the principal chief at Omahu, near Hastings. He married Ataria Hauwaho, a" daughter of-Mere Tekakaimako, who is interested in a good deal of land in this district. After his marriage he went to live with Renata, and successfully carried on farming. Of late deceased had been greatly worried through litigation and non-success in fanning operations.
