(Special lo Times.) WELLINGTON Mar. 1. There is al the present time current a '•rumor which has originated in usually well .informed circles, to effect that in all probability the Government will not ro-appiont Commissioner Dinnio on tlio expiration ol liis present term of ollice. it is further stated that Ministers have been thinking of appointing Mr Bishop S.M. to Lho position The Wellington tramway employees have formulated demands tor increased pay etc., that will involve the City in an additional expenditure of some thousands of pounds. The matter has been discussed with the union delegates at some length and some of the councillors are desirous of settling tlic matter by mutual negotiations, hut others are strongly of the opinion that the demands are such that they should go beloro the Arbitration Court. The conference between the ship owners of the Dominion and delegates from the Seamen’s Union will he opened at 10.30 a.m. to-morrow, at the 'Town Hall. The Minister for Marine (Lion. J. A. Millar) will ho present and tlie conference will be conducted in private. Mr Beidow, formally manager of the South British Insurance Co. hero is seriously ill.
