Yesterday Corson (4) beat Mackrell (7) in the Gisborne Club’s Handicap Singles, winning by 20 to 19. The game was an even one throughout, tlm issue being in doubt up to the finish. Corson conceded Mackrell 7 points, and only won after a desperate contest. Mackrell surprised tho onlookers by the steadiness and accuracy of his play. Several times ho lay oil the jack, and playing consistently he maintained his handicap until well on towards the close of the game. AA’ith five heads to go Corson was still 5 points behind, but lie scored three opportunely, and at the I.9th head the scores were even. After two bowls each had been played, Mackrell lay the shot with a good one. but Corson managed to shift it, and this gave him the match. It was a stiff tussle, and Corson only won at the finish through greater experience. Once he got the lead he kept his opponent on long heads and wore him down.
It is the intention of the Gisborne club to have the competition for tho Handicap Singles finished by next Thursday, and those competitors who have not thep played will forfeit their games. The following entries have been received for the competition for the Gisborne Chib’s Champion Singles, Cup (presented by Mr W. Pettie): — C. H. Ainbriflge ; W. Pettie; F. W. Eure, J. IV. Witty, T. Corson. Tbe draw for the Colt’s Single is as follows:—F. J. Pettie plays H. Miller, T. M. Collins plays O. Hansen, H. J. Brownlee plays A. Zachariah, .A. AT. Murray plays P. E. Eliott, Bullock plays R. Semple, T. Clarkson plevs 'f. G. Lawless, R. W. Kyme plays T. Robertson. The prize for this match is a pair of bowls presented by Air. W Pettie. On Thursday Wilson (substitute for Morgan) and Pavitt (4) played Mackrcll and Seymour (scr) in the Gisborne Club’s Handicap Pairs, and won by 28 to 13.
