Last night the filial race for the Poverty Bay Club’s President’s Cup (presented by Mr. E. iP. Joyce) and gold medals presented by a supporter of the club was rowed between J. Nicholas (sir), C. Winter, F. E. Porter, ami C. Orr, and C. Somervell (sir), T. .McConnell, W. 11. Davy, and A. E. Lyford. There was a good •attendance on the Kaili bridge, and much interest was shown in the race. The crews got away to a good start, but- soon Nicholas drew a-wa.v, and turning out of the Wnnnata lie had a lead of about three lengths. Somervell spurted at various points, but Nicholas was rowing a strong, swinging stroke, and kept his lead. Over the last furlong he spurted, and drawing awa.v won by about four - lengths. J.
