Tho Invercargill people have been looking forward with curiosity to the projected balloon ascent by Air. R. Alime, the well-known cycle 'dealer of this town, which was to havo taken place- to-day. Air. Murie has had some experience of ballooning in the Old Country. He made his balloon. and was having it filled ’ with coal gas preparatory to ascending in the afternoon, when the feed pipe from tho gas works leaked. In endeavoring to repair tho defect a man named Gilchrist was partially asphyxiated, and had to go to the hospital, where he is recovering. A further attempt to inflate it resulted in the splitting of the balloon and the abandonment of the ascent. Mr. Alurie, however, is prepared to try again. '■
