COUNTRY NEWS.
PORT A AVAN Ul. (from our correspondent.) The Hnupiri arrived on Saturday with a large cargo and with our new constable Wales and wife. AYc wish them a pleasant- sojourn. The same steamer also took constable Alellsop and Mrs Alellsop to Auckland on their way to AVbangarei. We wish them every success in their new station. The Haupiri also took a number of passengers including Air. A. T. Ngnta. A number of fat sheep for Auckland wero taken. She left on Sunday at noon. C.ipt. Skinner's schooner Kaeo was also here discharging and taking in cargo. 1 don’t sec or hear of any sign of Government starting <pir new post office. This ought to be done before the w inter starts as the roads simply get impassable for heavy traffic in winter. 1 see large shipments of grass seed coming in, and this means that a lot of country, that has been burnt off lately, is to bo sown and will becarrvin a lot of stock next year. From what I have scon of back country 1 should estimate there will be more than double the number of sheep hero next year at shearing time. Trade generally has been brisk tin’s Christmas.
