BOWLING
GISBORNE TEAMS FOR AUCKLAND. The bowlers who are to represent tlie two /local clubs at the Auckland Tournament this week left by the .Manuka on Saturday night. A large number .of supporters assembled at the wharf to wish them a pleasant trip and success at the tournament, which commences this morning. In the first round the Gisborne Club meets Foildiug and Turnngaiuii meet Dannevirke. Both of there are reputed to be strong combinations and .1 prominent member of the Turanganui Club expressed the opinion at the wharf on Saturday night that if tho members of his club played up to form they ought to win, but thought that Foildiug would prove too strong for the Gisborne Club. Messrs .1. W. Witty and G. IT. Alartin arc also going up to play in the pairs match, and will probably take part in the singles also. Air. I. S. Simson is in Auckland and will probably compote, and Afr. Redstone will also probably play in the singles. It is Hoped that the teams will play tor the citizens’ trophies. Everyone is leaving hopeful for the best. The tournament starts to-day and continues for a week. Alost of the local contingent are expected back on AA cdnesday week, but some intend proceeding to Rotorua. NORTHE R X ASSOC IATION AS TOURNAMENT. Prose Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 4.
