During the absence of Air A\. J. Hawley, who left on Saturday tor Auckland on a moutlds holiday, the local Customs House will be in charge of Air James Mclntosh, of Auckland. Atessrs Bert Stagpoole. and Ken. Eglinton returned to Palmerston North by tiie Alonowai last evening, after having spent their holidays with friends in Gisborne. The funeral of the late Airs. Barron took nlace at the Alakaraka eerneierv vesterdav afternoon, when there “was a large attendance oi mourners and friends. The burrtl service was conducted by one ol the Plymouth Brethren. \ gathering of the trieiuls of Air. G. E. J. Elliott, of E. AV. Burton and Co., took place at Mrs. Sheen's, Kaiti, on Saturday evening, Air. A. G. Laiireiison being in the chair. 11l proposing the health ot the guest, the chairman referred to Air. Elliott’s sterling, qualities, and expressed the esteem in which he was held and the regret of the company at losing him. He wished Air. Elliott a prosperous future. On behalf m the company he presented Air. Elliott with a case of pipes and a tobacco pouch. Others present endorsed the chairman’s remarks. 111 reply, Air. Elliott briefly returned thanks, and expressed the regret he felt at leaving* behind the many friends lie had made in Gisborne. A number of musical items were rendered. Air. Elliott, left for Wellington by the Alonowai last evening.
