The Poverty Bay Club’s sculling competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday evening when two races were rowed. W. MeUuffie (9soc) ineL W. Williams (30sec), and alter a good race to the bridge Hie former overliaidl'd his opponent and held him safe .from that point onward, event "ally winning hy half a length. Nicholas (Os-re) and Winter ( lose,-) were the other pair. Winter was the fancied one of the two, hut a surprise was in store as Nicholas fairlv excelled himself and, rowing very s'trongly, won a good race hy the narrow margin of a couple of foot. Tonight the races will he continued. A general meeting of the Poverty Ray (Tub on important business will be held in the hoatsheds this evening. A committee meeting of the Gisborne Club will also ho held at their sheds to-night.
