SAD DROWNING ACCIDENT.

PLUCKY YOUNG LADY LOSES HER LIFE. Press Association. MASTERTON, Dec. 27. A sad drowning accident occurred in the Ruamahanga river this afternoon, in which Hilda Cook, aged 18, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. TV. Cook, of Wadestown, Wellington, lost her lifo. A boy named Godfrey Clapcott was in the river swimming, having on swimming wings. The wings came off and Clapcott went after them. He got out of his depth and commenced to sink, when Miss Cook, who was bathing with throe other children, and who was unable to swim, went after him to try and gat him out, when she got beyond her depth. Another boy named Hunter got Clapcott out of the water. The body of the girl was recovered three-quarters of an hour afterwards. She was on a holiday here with friends.
