COOK COUNTY CURIOUS COONS

The programme for the performance to be given next l'Tiday evening indicates that tlie performance should prove an undoubted success as there is an < f good choruses and songs together with a splendid orchestra winch is doing good work under Mr. Don. The Coons are introducing, quite a variety of new talent to the Gisborne public, many of whom have already made some fame in private entertainments. The costumes to be worn by the performers and the setting of Hie scenes are a great attraction •» themselves, and there is little doubt that the curtain will rise to a pacired house. SACRED CONCERT. His Majesty’s Theatre was crowded last night, the occasion being the sacred concert given by Mrs. Buckeridge prior to her • departure for England. Mrs. Buckeridgo was well received in her singing of “Slio Wore a Wreath of Roses” and “The Children’s Home,” Mr. Cuthhert supplying a violin- obligato to the latter song. Mrs. Howie, always a local favorite, was in particularly good voice, and was loudly applauded for her singing of “Nearer My God to Thee.” iMiss Hansen gave a nice rendering of “Tired,” and was heartily applauded. Songs were also contributed -by Messrs. Williamson (“The Sailor’s Grave”), Teat ("The Way of Peace”), Reynolds (“The Holy City” and “The Star of Bethlehem”), and P. Adair (“Life’s Lullaby”). iMr. J. Adair gave a ’cello solo (“Simple Aveu”), and Mr. Kennedy recited “Not Understood,” with piano accompaniment. The lecompaiiiments were played by Miss Mclllione, Mesdames Kennedy, Brownlee, and Hoosier, and Messrs. Piper and Sutcliffe.
