' On .Saturday Air and Airs .1. T. Evans and the Alisses Evans (2) returned from a trip to England. It is stated that Air Pables, chairman of the Whakatane County Council will contest the Bay of Plenty seat in the Government interest at' .next general election. ■ IAIr Geo. Grant on Saturday received a telegram from Alurcliison recording the death of his brother, Air Thomas AI. Grant. Recently the deceased gentleman had his leg broken in a buggy accident, but was recovering well from that in'snap. The late Air Grant had for two years been acting District Surveyor at Nelson. He previously lro-tl a similar position at Hokitika, and he also, held a position in the neal office of the Survey Department for some time.
On Saturday Air W. Miller returned from a business visit to Wan go n u and Wellington.
The Hon. Wi Pere returned from .Wellington on Saturday. Airs. .Buckeridgo leaves next Sunday on her trip to England. Airs. J. A. Harding left for South last night-. The death occurred at Matawliero on Saturday of an-old and respected resident. Airs. Jones, wife of William Jones, at the age of 55. The funeral will leave deceased’s late residence at 2.15 this afternoon.
Air. H. E. Dodd, who lias been in the local branch of the Bank of New South AVales for the pa6t 13 years, has received intimation that he has been appointed chief accountant at the Napier branch, and will leave this week to take up his new duties. Air. Dodd, will be greatly missed amongst a large circle of friends in tin's town, where he has been exceedingly popular The Gisborne Bowling Club will lose an excellent secretary through his departure.
