MANUFACTURERS HAVE TO REFUSE ORDERS. A GOOD SIGN: GIRLS SHUN THE FACTORIES. MORE IMMIGRATION WANTED. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 4. Tlioro is considerable scarcity of labor hero at present, and the Labor Department is ‘in need of a hundred laborers for Government and private employment. Manufacturers are also in want of bands, and because they cannot get them have had in some instances to refuse orders. Girls especially seem more inclined to shun the factory. It is suggested that greater efforts should be made to obtain immigrants from the Old Country. A deputation of employers waited on the Minister for Labor to-day in connection with the matter, but the meeting was private.
