COMMERCIAL.

THE "WOOL SALES.

A good deal of disappointment lias been felt locally at the poor support that is being accorded th© first wool sale held in G.isborno under the auspices of the N.Z. Woolbrokcrs’ Association. Only three buyers have put in an appearance, and they explain that tho remainder of those who attended the Napier . sales did not come on to Gisborne, because by so doing they would bo prevented from attending the ‘Wellington sales on Friday. The gentlemen who will attend the sale are Messrs. H. Holmes (representing Messrs. Andrae and Co., Wellington), M. F. Bourke, of Napier, and F. Kearsley (representing Murgatroyd’s Christchurch). They called at the Times office Inst evening for the purpose of expressing their appreciation of the trouble that had been gone to by the chairman of tho Gisborne Woolbrokers’ Association, Mr. Bright, in arranging the sale. .They state that tho wool is well displayed, and that generally speaking it is of excellent quality, though here and there the classing is faulty. As a- result of the buyers generally declining to be present- at the sale, the hulk of the wool that was to have been offered has been withdrawn from the auction, and arrangements aro being made to get it shipped, to London as expeditiously as possible. Under the circumstances, and in view o. the prevailing low prices, it is_ not expected that the fixture will fie a successful one. At the sales the following will he offered: —Dalgety and Co., 410 bales wool, 700 skins; Bennett and Sherra.it, 100 hales wool, 1000 skins; Common, Shelton, and Co., 200 bales wool, 1500 skins; N.Z. L. and M. A. Co., 90 bales, 85 pockets, 5 fadges, 18 hags wool;' Williams and Kettle, 330 bales wool, 1900 skins and pelts, 126 hides, quantity of dead wool, and several packages of tallow.
