Mr J. B. Kells, of Messrs Common Shelton and Gay, returned yeslei day from Napier, where lie had been attending the wool sales. Archdeacon Williams, at present laid up with a sprained ankle at Tupmoa, is expected to proceed to Auckland by tlio Hnupiri on hor present trip and to conic on to Gisborne by the next intercolonial liner. The Bishop of AAMiapu proceeded to Niapior by tho Zoalandia last night. Dr and Mrs Innes, who have been on a shout visit to Gisborne, returned south last night. Last night, Dr E. S. Brett, lately resident surgeon at the Gisborne Hospital, left by the -Zealand]a to take up tho position of resident surgeon at the Napier hospital. 4iy the Ze’alandia yesterday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Reed and tlie Misses Reed returned from a trip to England. Dr Schumacher returned to. Gisborne yesterday, having been absont in AVctlington for a week on business.
Mr. Vincent Ward, son of the Premier, was in Gisborne yesterday, spending tho day prior to going to tlio station of Mr. Clare, with whom lie purposes spend!ng a short holiday. Mr George Hutchinson, ox-M.H.lt. for Patea, now in AVanganui, has expressed bis intention to contest a seat at tho next general election. Mr. Alfred Slade, Kaiti, is at preson t in the Hospital suffering from a broken jawbone, as tho result of a kick from a horse. Ho is progressing favorably towards recovery. Sir Robert Stout; G.J., loft yesterday by the Haupiri for Port Awaliui, where sittings of the Native Land Commission aro to bo hold. Mr. J. Cannon remains in much the same condition. Dr. Dedive Lowe, Auckland, who was expected to. arrive yesterday, was detained, and will not arrive hero until Sunday.
Owing to ill-healtli Air. J. D. McCredio will be unable to act _ 11s secretary of the To Karaka Racing Club at its coming meeting, and his duties will be carried out by Mr. P. J. Softon.
At tlio Ivaiti School on Tuesday afternoon Miss Fanbert, on behalf of the boys of Standard VI., presented the headmaster, Mr. Bull, with a handsome pipe in a case. Tlio Rev. Air. North, who lias been presiding at tho Baptist Tabernacle for the past fortnight, left for Auckland by the Alonowai yesterday. Tlio Rev. j. A. AVilliams, Epsom, who is to take’ his placo hero, arrived from Auckland by the Zealandia yesterday afternoon.
