INEBRIATES’ HOME.
AN INTERESTING EXPERIMENT. WELLINGTON, Nov. 28.
Brigadier Albiston, officer in charge of the North Island district of the Salvation Army, and Brigadier Bray, in charge of the social work for ’ Australasia, interviewed Mr. T. Waldegiuve, Under-Secre-tary for. Justice, this morning, with reference to proclaiming Bell’s Island, Auckland, for the purpose of an Inebriates’ Home. It is understood that the gazetting- o>f the Home will take place in a few days, and that the institution will prob'ably. be formally opened by the end of January. If tlio Home,, which is to accommodate fifty persons, proves successful, similar institutions will be established in Wellington, Gliristc'lmrdli, and‘Dunedin, as fast as the Army can obtain properties. Stall captain, and Mrs. Simpson, now in charge of the Prison. Gate Home and Court work, in - Auckland, will have charge of the institution. They are to be assisted by Captain Wadsworth, who has been associated with • the Auckland prison work. Tllit services of Mr. Goldie, son-in-law or Mr. Bell, proprietor of the island, will bo retained by the Army for 12 months. Mr. 'Goldie understands the working of the electric lighting plant and other appointments at the island.
