Mr. G. H. Lysnar, who is suffering from an attack of enteric fever/ is progressing favorably. Mr. G. AV. Sampson, formerly chief postmaster at Gisborne, and now of Greymoufli, is at present on a visit to Gisborne. On Monday he leaves for Morere. Mr. G. Hutchinson, ex-M.H.R. for Patea, is at present in AA’ellington, having recently returned from a trip to England. He intends to spend tho next few months in the AVanganui district.

A Press Association telegram states : Mr. Atkinson McDowell, who lias been Collector of Customs at Invercargill for tlie past six years, retires on pension as from April, with the usual three months’ leave. Prior to that date Mr. McDowell had 44 years’ service in the Department, serving in Auckland, AA’ellington, Christchurch, Lyttelton, and Greymouth. 'Ho proposes to settlo in Canterbury.
