MATAWHERO STOCK SALE. A LARGE ENTRY AND SATISFACTORY PRICES. Tlio usual fortnightly sale was held yesterday at Matawhero. There was a large entry of stock of all kinds, and, generally speaking, prices were inclined to be somewhat easier. Owing to the recent favorable weather both sheep and cattle are commencing to'come forward in better condition, and the entry included some really prime shorn wethers and ewes quite up to freezing standard, whilst the collection of fat steers was the best in point of numbers and quality combined that has been seen at Matawhero for some time. SHEEP. About 9000 sheep were yarded, and consisted chiefly of hoggets and ewes. Ewes and Jambs were fairly represented, and what were sold realised satisfactory figures. Comparatively few wethers were yarded, and recent prices were obtained. The first twotooth wethers of the season were offered, and realised up to 13s 6d shorn. Stephenson, of Matawhero, and Turehau station. These sold readily, butchers being apparently anxious to get hold of them, but although the quality was excellent the prices obtained were hardly as high as was anticipated.
