MAORI MEMBERS’HONORARIUM
(Special to Times). AVELLINGTON, Nov. 12
Mr. Kailtau, the member for tho Western Maori district, has been absent- for the greater part of tho session without leave, and liis honorarium was in dianger of being docked. To-day, however, the Hon. Air. Oarroll moved that he be granted leave of absence from June 27th until September Ist, on account of illness. Mr A. L. D. Fraser said ho would offer no objection. Probably the less said about it the better. He held, however, that the Parliament should recognise the valuable services of • Mr. Hone Heko when a few years ago troops had to be sent into a disturbed district in tlio Auckland-district. Not only had Mr. ' Helce never received even the thanks of Pariament for his services, but his honorarium had been filched from him during the time ho was absent on a public duty. The Premier said ho had no recollection of the circumstances, and no representations had been made to him, Mr. A. L. D. Fraser said they liad been made to tho late Air. Seddon. Tho Premier said he would be very glad to get the facts.
