ACCIDENT IN THE GUINEAS.

An accident which unfortunately had a fatal termination occurred at El'lerslie on Saturday, tho victim holing tho well-known horseman T. Taylor, who had the mount on Pohutu in the Great Northern Guineas The colt was ill the lead as they approached tho home turn, where lie slipped and came down, falling on his rider, while Downfall who was immediately behind crashed into him. Ca'dence who was running third also fell l over him. The unfortunate horseman was picked up in .an unconscious condition and conveyed in the club’s ambulanco to the casualty ward, whore, on examination by Drs. Murphy and Goldstein, lie was found to bo suffering from severe concussion of the brain and also a bad scalp wound: His condition was considered so serious that tho doctors ordered his _ immediate removal to the hospital, where, after lingering till 6 o’clock last evening, lie passed away without regaining consciousness. Taylor, who was 42 years of age, was one of tlie oldest and best known horsemen in New Zealand. He leaves a widow and several children.
