EXPLOSION ON A LAUNCH.
AN EXCITING EXPERIENCE. Press Association. ROTORUA, Nov. 11. A serious accident occurred on the oil launch Pakeha, belonging to Mr. Duncan Steele, on Lake Rotorua, last night at 8 o’clock. The launch was returning from Lake Rotoiti. The engine had not been working well for some time, and Mr. Steele went to examine it, having a lanrp in ■ his hand. No sooner had he opened the engine room door than an explosion took place. Messrs Steele, Mead, lies, and Goodson were badly burned. The boat caught fire, and all the deckhouso was burned. Steele was badly burned about the hands, legs, and head; Mead was badly burned on the 'hands and face; lies suffered injury to his face; and Goodson’s injuries were slight. The accident happened midway between the wharf and Mokoia Island. Mr. A. E. Kusabs, with, the launch Alexandra, went to render .assistance, and the fire was subdued by the time the boat reached the wharf. Mead is at present in the sanatorium, but the others went to their homes.
