With respect to New York State county elections, the fact of Tammany defeating tile Republican and Hearst fusion is considered notable, because Hearst attempted to detach the Irish vote, attacking the London Times and indulging in Anglophobia in bis papers,. Mir. Hearst’s prospects for the I’fesidency aro considered'■extinguished.
Nebraska gave a Republican vote, which is a rebuke to Air. AV. J. Bvran, the Republican candidate for the Presidency. Kentucky and New Jersey States have gone Republican, though New Jersey City remains ■Democrat. The Alornion Alayor of Salt Lake City was defeated by his religious opponent.
POPULATION STATISTICS. *1 Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 7. Tho estimated population of New Zealand on September 30th was 919,190, plus Maoris 47,731, and Cook and other Islands 12,340. Tlieso figures represent a gain for the quarter of 4598.
