THE SHOW MANAGEMENT.

[Tj the Editor.]

ftir, —As a visitor to your town, and also your Show,. 1 was extremely surprised and astonished at what 1 would call the crude way in which the Show was conducted. No doubt tlie committee are new to the business, and are doing their best according to their lights. It appears to me you want men of a stamp who have tiiio courage of their own opinions and backbone sufficient to see that the judges do their duty in a fair and impartial manner, and tint those steward? who are in attendance on the judges are sans reprocho. I was a spectator at the Show, and having had the honor to have formerly been a judge myself, never in my experience did I know or see a judge who judged Iris horses without examining them before giving his decision. AV.ha.t struck me most of anything was that on asking who one winner was, I was told lie was tlie steward in attendance on the judge. Now, Sir, for a steward who is acting in any class to enter bis own stock, and at the- came time almost tell the judge that lie \yas the owner of certain animals, and immediately enter into competition by driving his oivn horses, is, to say the least, extremely bad taste. It should not be allowed by the committee. The very fact that lie is in clos,, attendance upon the judge and at the same time a competitor lis open to serious criticism. I also noticed the judges were asked to judge produce, etc., who, however decent follows they may be, are from what I can learn utterly ignorant of what they are judging. It is to be hoped the committee will at the next Show attend more to these anomalies. They in i.v appeal* small in the eyes of our friends in Poverty Bay, but are perhaps erf vast importance to those who are competitors but not stewards who are inclined to abuse their privileges.—l am, etc. , “A VISITOR.”
