Clip meeting. -ilr. J. C. Gilruth, the chief Govcrnmeuit Veterinarian, arrived in town yesterday, and left again lor •the South last night. During Jus brief stay -Air. Gilruth inspected the two local freezing works, as well as the abattoirs, and expressed hiniselt as well satisfied with the sanitary conditions prevailing at those establishments. He suggested certain improvements of a minor nature. Air. Gilruth also visited the Show, and renewed acquaiiiiitaneo with a number of local residents. ,-Mr H. Kisling. of Auckland, who is secretary to the N.Z. Insuramce Cunt puny, will act as Wellington manager until Mr. Kempthome s ar,Mr C. A. Emeu, who assumed the management of the Commercial Union Company here, has gamed the esteem of the entire Mercantile community in AVellhigton. The Hon. R. AlcNiab, who was to have accompanied the scientific expedition to the Southern Islands, is unable to leave for the cruise. Colonel Collins, of the Treasury Department, who has been ill with influenza, lias resumed duty. 11ns is the first occasion during forty-one years that Colonel Collins has been •absent from his office on account of illness. In this respect lie has probably established a record for a New Zealand civil servant. Yesterday there was a very large gathering of prominent AA’ellington people at the wedding of Air Joseph Parker, chief sub-editor of the Evening Post, to Miss Vera MiicDonald, daughter of the Hon. T. K. MacDonald, M.L.C. The Rev. J. Paterson, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Gibb, conducted tTie ceremony. The bridesmaids wore Miss Rubi Seddon, M iss Hilda Alee and ‘Miss Ethel Rnthford. Afr Aubrey Alee • was best mam and Sir KennitU Douglas and Air T. A". S'eddon AI.'H.R. were the groomsmen. The guests were entertained at the residence of the bride’s parents.
