Our Tokomaru correspondent writes: —The friends of Mr. T. if. Hindmarsh, J. P., assembled at To Puka Hotel, Tokomaru Bay, on Saturday evening last to bid farewell to him at a champagne dinner. Over thirty gentlemen were present; Mr. T. Powell being chairman. The speakers referred to Mr. Hindmarsh’s residence here ol 17 years, during which time he had displayed an interest second to none in the welfare of the district, and had also been iai great patron of athletics in all its branches, and that all were very sorry he was leaving Tokomaru Bay. During the very pleasant evening spent, the early pioneering difficulties were referied to, the great' expanse of business in recent vears was noted, and the speakers were optimistic in regard to future prospects. The various toasts were ably dealt with by the Chairman and by Messrs. Oates, Williams, McCrackeii Willis, Buchanan, Fairlie, Saxby, and Watkins. Mr. Hindmarsh in a feeling speech thanked the residents for the very hearty send-off that had bean given him. Before closing the host Mr Jamieson, came in tor great praise for the excellent dinner provided, and the perfection of his arrangements. air.
