MATAWMEItO SALE

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Ltd., report on Thursday's stocK salo at luatawtiero iib lolows: fine spring weather was experienced, and tho attendance was largo. Yardings of both sheep and cattle were heavy but bidding was not as brisk as at last salo altiiough a largo quantity of stock changed hands. , , , . Sheep: Stimulated no doubt by last sale’s prices, a vory heavy entry came forward, tho supply causing buyers to display loss cagornesss to fill tJioir wants. Fat and forward sheep cased in value some 3s a head, duo no doubt to adverse reports ol the Auckland market. Ewes and lambs wore in too largo supply and dropped in price, wliiio good hoggets may be said to liavo hold their own better than any other class. Our entry comprised 7634, of which wo sold 5152 at an average prico of 17s. Tlio following wero tlio day’s quotations:—Dry ewes old and in low condition 11s to 12s. better lots 13s 5d to 14s. Ewes and lambs with small percentages 15s Od to 16s 9d, better lots -17 sto 18s 2d. Good ewes with about 100 per cent of well grown lambs made 20s 9d to 25s Id. Wetliors made from 18s 6d to 20s 9d, a drop of about Is from last sale. Cull hoggets sold at 10s 8d to 13s 4d, medium lines 14s 3d to 15s 6d, good well grown lots 15s lid to 17s lOd. Fat ewes 18s to 20s, fat lambs 10s Gd to 12s.

Cattlo: Young cattle, both steers and lioifors, were in demand, but grown steers which have lately been eagerly competed for woro neglected. Dairy stock are an absolute drug. Tho number of clearing sales have apparently moro than supplied the demand. Our cattlo yarding totalled 486 head, of which we sold 350 at tlio following prices:—Calves 255, yearling lieifors £2, heifers 18 months to 2 years £2 5s to £2 16s. Herd cows old and in low condition £2 to £3, better lots up to £4. Cows and calves £2 5s to £3 Bs, dairy cows up to £6, beef cows £5 to £6, beef heifers £4 2s 6d. Steers, yearlings £2 10s, 18 months to 2 years £3 2s to £3 15s, 2 to 21 years £4 2s 6d to £4 17s 6d.

Pigs woro a small entry, but demand was brisk. Weaners made 14s to 14s 6d, porkers 28s to 345. Our next salo is fixed for 31st October, for which we shall bo pleased to receive entries.

Press Association. NAPIER, October 18. Tho Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, London, cable tlio follovrinpc report:—Frozen meat: Thero is a further fall in values of mutton and beef. To-day’s quotations aro: Canterbury mutton 3Jd; Napier, Wellington, and North Island, 33d; lamb, first 51d, second 5d ; beef, hinds 3|d, fores 23d. AUCKLAND, October 18. This week the s.s. Corinna will take for transhipment to the s.s. Ruapehu at Wellington 6735 boxes of butter and 24 eases of cheese for Great Britain. F rom the opening of September up to this week’s consignment there have been exported 5547 boxes to Groat Britain, 1000 to South Africa, and 302 to the South Sea Islands, making a grand total, with this week’s exports, of 13,884 boxes or 347 tons. For the corresponding period of last year the exports were 14,703 boxes for Great Britain, 300 for South Africa, and 387 for tlio South S°a Islands, making a total of 15,390 boxes, or 354 tons. The output for the season so far thus shows a- decrease of 37 tons.
