In the House this afternoon, Mr. Okey gave notice to ask the Government if it will pass an urgent measure empowering it to take the duty off flour, tho price of which was becoming prohibitive.

SITUATION IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. By reason of the rise of an extra £1 per ton made in tho price of flour yesterday, the price f.o.b. at Southern ports becomes £l2 per ton, and the cost to Wellington purchasers runs out at £l3 15s per ton. It was thought that’ tho £2 per ton increased price that has been on since the Wellington ba’kers raised the price of bread to 4d the 21b loaf, would result in an immediate further rise, hut inquiries made, however, elicited the information that it was not intended to make any increase for tho present, there being a hope' that the present excited state of the flour market was only transient, and that- later developments in all great wheat growing countries might ease the strain.

Tho bakers complain that there has been a largo falling off in' the supply of bread sinco the nrico was raised to 7id.

WHEAT A RECORD PRICE

DUNEDIN, Oct. 15. Tilt, wheat-market onnt.in\ico'to - advance, and several thousands of sacks of wheat sold to-day at a price equal to os 8d or 5s 9d, delivered in Dunedin, which is the highest price recorded for many years. It is stated that any further rise in the price of flour will necessitate an increase in the price of bread to 8d per loaf.
