INFANT SUFFOCATED IN BED.
CORONER ADVOCATES LEGISLATION.
Press Association. EKETAHUNA, Oct. 15. At the inquest touching tho death of a child three months of age through accidental suffocation while in the parents’ bed, Mr. W. P. James, S.M.j Coroner, said this was the third or fourth case in the district during the last three months under similar circumstances. He considered legislation should be introduced, tho same as iu England, to make it an offence for parents to allow infants to sleep in the same bed with them. Such culpable negligence on the parents’ part should be coped with. Dr. Chadwick’s evidence was to the effect that tho practice was unhealthy and dangerous, apart from the liability of suffocation. A verdict of accidental death was roturned.
