A famous reliquary, worth £BOO, stolen from a church at Ambazac, was traced to London. Thomas’s portfolio containing the receipt was found in the Seine. The French Goveminent -demand restitution of the reliquary. A Paris dealer in antiquities confessed that lie purchased many rare treasures from Thomas, of which he surrendered a relic, consisting of a finger of Saint Louis, stolen from a church at Passy. French detectives secured many letters aiddresed to Parisian dealers in antiquities by persons purporting to be secularised monks, stating that fearing impending ruin owing to the Government’s policy they desired to sell church treasures and substitute imitations.
