A BUILDING CONTRACT.

WAIROA JOURNALLST IN TROUBLE. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. -There has been a good deal of talk in the lobbies about an article in the “Wairoa Guardian” of 27th September regarding the amount for extras paid on the £27,000 contract for the Railway Department building in Wellington. Members generally doubt the accuracy of the statements made. The matter has been brought under the notice of the Premier, and the allegations are of such a serious nature that- he may deem it necessary to make a statement in the House regarding them.

. THE STATEMENTS UNTRUE. MATTER IN THE HANDS OF A LAWYER. \ ' ___ WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. Since wiring earlier in the evening I have seen the Premier In regard to the article referred to above, and have his authority for stating that the statements made are absolutely .nacourate. Sir Joseph Ward has placed the matter in the hands of a lawyer. He himself had nothing to do with the arrangement for extras in connection with the building.
