EMPLOYERS’ VIEWS. Press Association. DUNEDIN, September 5. At a meeting of the Otago Employers’ Association t-hi 6 afternoon, it was decided to adhere to the resolution passed b~ the Employers’ _ Federation in reference to the Arbitration Act Amendment Bill. The meeting also decided that in the event of the Government insisting upon giving the Industrial' Councils a trial certain amendments would be necessary. It is understood that on© of the principal amendments, proposed bv the local association is- in the direction of having four presidents appointed, two for each Island, the positions to be permanent, and the remuneration for each president to he not less than £BOO a year, ■ with expenses. The opinion of the association is that the fewer tribunals there are the more likelihood there will be of uniformity of awards. NEW PLYMOUTH, September 5. A well attended meeting of the Employers’ Association was held to- ’ night to consider the proposed amendments to the Factories’ Act and carried a resolution strongly urging the Minister of Labor to amend clause 9, sub-section 2, of the Factories _Act amendment so that it may Be optional on any borough outside the chief centres where factories and shops aro combined to observe the half-holiday under the Shops Act, in lieu of Saturday and heartily supports the New Zealand Employers’ Federation in its efforts to secure this important’ privilege.
