THE CAMBRIDGE SANATORIUM.
ITS LOCATION CRITICISED. “SO HIGH UP IT GETS ALL THE WINDS THAT BLOW.” * Special to Times. WELLINGTON, September 5. In the House to-day Mr. Massey asked if statements made to the effect that the Cambridge Sanatorium had been reported upon as being placed in an altogether unsuitable place, the climate being moist, and the sanatorium exposed to. westerly winds, which were very trying to people suffering from chest complaints, were true. He wished to know if medical men had at different times reported to this effect. He also wished to know •if important parts of reports had been kept back instead of having been submitted to Parliament. Mr. Fowlds said he had not kept back reports. So far as the location was concerned, he thought it had been generally approved, though he did not know whether, the same stress was put on the question of elevation now *as at the time this site was chosen. The climate was satisfactory ; the only objection was that owing to the height it was more difficult to get material up to the sanatorium. Mr. Massey: “What about the westerly winds” ? Mr. Fowlds (after consulting Dr. Mason): “It’s so high up that it gets all the winds that blow. I have not kept back any information.” Mr. Massey : “I will put a straight question to the Minister. Has Dr. Penreitli’s report been submitted in its entirety or lias part of it been kept back” P Mr. Fowlds: “I cannot say, but Dr. Penreitli’s administration was not quite satisfactory, from tbe Department’s point of view, and at the time of bis leaving he may have made some adverse reports.”
