Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, September 2. An elderly single man, James Stark, aged sixty-seven, .died suddenly at his house at Woodend on Sunday evening. To-day an inquest was held by Mr,. -V. G. Day, coroner, and after hearing the evidence the jury returned a verdict of death owing to heart failure. BLENHEIM, September 2. The inquest on Thomas Dunkley, whose remains wero found, in his cottage, burned down on Sunday morning was adjourned till Thursday to allow of .further evidence being procure<J - THAMES, September 2. The body of Frederick Neavo, drowned in' the Pinko River on Friday, was recovered on Sunday iby dragging. The inquest elicited no new facts. The opinion was expressed that deceased was asleep on the stern of a boat, woke suddenly, ami toppled over in fright. A verdict of “accidentallydrowned” was returned. AUCKLAND, 'September 2. An elderly lad>‘ named Ann Lindsay, a widow, 60 years of age, who resided with her sons ,at Epsom, was killed in Queen-street this afternoon. She was crossing the road when in avoiding a tram she ran into one of Messrs. A. B. Wright and Sons express carts. The driver did Ins utmost to pull the horse up, but was unable to do so. The horse appeared to strike the woman on the beau.

WELLINGTON, September 2. .Charles William Whitehead, 47 years of age, while engaged on telegraph lino work at Kiibirnie this afternoon, fell to one side of the ladder. When taken down by his mato ho was dead, it is supposed from heart disease. Wliiteford leaves a widow and three or four children. MASTERTON, September 2. An inquest was hold at Mataikona on Saturday last on tho body of Patrick Hanning, who was found dead in his wliaro.on- Friday last with a gunshot wound in his head. After hearing evidence the jury returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide whilo of unsound mind.,
