A tower 300 feet high of the famous Sanctuary of the Crucified at Baca, collapsed owing to disturbance of the foundations. A regiment or intantiy quitted the basilica a few minutes before. No lives were lost, though there were numerous remarkable escapes. Tho loss is estimated at £IOO,OOO. The chapel containing the supposed miraculous imago of the Madonna is intact.
