The Hon. Captain Tucker arrived from the South yesterday morning, in order to attend meetings of the Harbor Board, County Counoil, and Hospital Trustees. Mr. D. E. Dustin returned yesterday from a short trip to Sydney. During his stay in tlie New South Wales metropolis the great sculling race was decided, and Air. Dustin had tlio opportunity of witnessing AVehli’s fine performance. He states that the New Zealander’s win aroused extraordinary - enthusiasm, and speaks highly of the treatment accorded New Zealanders by the Sydney sportsmen. Mr. and Miss AA’yilie, of Gisborne, were visitors at Rotorua last week. Air. H. N. AA’atson, of AA’aimata, is at jnesent in Gisborne. Visitors to town include Airs. Bridges (Alotii), Air. and Airs. Bowen (Nuiiaka), Air. and Airs. AlcKenzie ( lington). Air. A. Hegarty (Alangatu). Air. E. D. Benjamin, managing director for L. D.' Nathan and Co., Ltd-, is on a visit to Gisborne. Air. AA*. J. S. Hayward, representing Alessrs. Nodine and Co., of AA ellingtoii, arrived in town yesterday. Appointments oited at the H.B. Education Board on Alonday included: —Miss J. Brown, assistant, Gisborne ; Air. D. Cowan, assistant, Gisborne. Resignations received included Air. U. H. Tawhii'i, pupil teacher, Mangapapa; Aliss M. K. Brownlee, assistant, Patuitahi. At Alonday’s meeting of tlie H.B. Education Board. Sir AVillia.m Russell was elected chairman. During the discussion Air. Alorgan moved, and Mr. Darton seconded, the nomination of AL-. S. AlcLernon, but he declined to stand for tlie "position, stating that he had not time to devote to tlie duties of office. Air. Darton moved a hearty vote of tlianks to Air. X. Tanner, the retiring chairman, for his 30 years’ service on the Board, which was carried unanimously.
