LOCAL AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. The Victoria Hilliard Saloon. Peel Street, lias been tlio scene of many good games in connection with the tournament for the local amateur championship. The trophy donated by the proprietors, Messrs. Scgedin and Osto.ja,. is a very handsome one, and whoever carries it ofF for the year will have deserved his victory, the contest being very keen. Three rounds have bee nplayed to date, in all 27 games, and it says much for the high calibre of tho play than no less than 53 breaks of over 20 have been recorded to date. The games are proceeding each evening, and an especially interesting match is set down for Saturday night when two local cracks will meet' in competition. Following are the progress results:— J. Robson won 2, lost. 1; R. Isaac, won 1, lost 3; To Kane Pere. won 4, lost 0 ; B. Parr, won 2, lost 2; 13. Lucas, won 3, lost, 1 ; S Dell, won 2, lost 2; S. Coleman, won 2,'lost 2; Munro Fere, won 3, lost 0; Rutene Tikavi, won 1, lost 3; McGonagel, won 1, lost 2; F. (inrke, won 1, lost 2; M. Deneliy, won 2, lost 2; L. Austin, won 2, lost 2: Dale played 1, lost 1; Cl. G. Martin, won 3, lost 1; E. Roderick, won 1, lost 2. The fourth round is now proceeding, and the fifth will be played nestweek. The championship is to be contested annually. Mr. Segedin speaks in warm terms of the excellent way in which the players have so far carried on the competition. He has had considerable experience in Auckland and other cities and declares that the local cueists number many fine exponents of the game, a good deal of high-class play having been witnessed.
