CIRCUMLOCUTION.
AN EXPLANATION. Mr. P. C. Long, secretary of the Waiapu No-License League, writes: “One of your comments on the NoLicense League meeting last night is apt to give the impression that I cast something of a slur upon our magistrate and police officers. I desire to explain that the language appearing in the paragraph was not mine; and also that Mr. Barton gave me a satisfactory reason for referring me back to’the police, viz., that he had no jurisdiction over police records. I would add that both in magistrate and police I found no lack of business promptitude and consideration, although I, with others, cannot understand why the Commissioner of Police should refuse to grant tlie permission asked for.”
