Press Association. DUNEDIN, yesterday. At a meeting of the. Board of Education a circular from tho Educatiorial Institute was read setting forth the Minister’s statement when in 'Dunedin that teachers should not pay for official postage and that they should post their letter unstamped, the Board paying on receipt. . The Board agreed to act on this; suggestion of Ministers, arid decided to apply for the amount of postage so incurred at the end of the year. The Secretary was instructed to soo that only strictly official correspondence came without prepaid postage. Several members of the Board expressed opinions tliait this recovery! of postagd money was a .matter they would like to see attended to. The Board received two replies from lieadquarterl to resolutions re improvements needed in the classification of teachers,, forwarded to the Education Department. . The first reply was from the Secretary of the Education Department. who wrote that the matter would receive the Minister’s attention. Tlie other letter was from Dr. Anderson, assistant Inspector-Gen-eral of Schools, who wrote that while the status of many uncertificated teachers gave tho Minister somo concern he found a difficulty in recognising that the. step proposed by tho Board as a remedy would meet the case. Teachers who had passed the matriculation examination had already doiie much to qualify for a certificate, and would have little trouble in complying with the special provision in their favor. The Minister would be obliged to look in anotlior direction for improvement.
