AUCKLAND, last night.

I A terrible tram fatality occurred in tho city to-night, tho victim being Harry Elder, a man about 40 years |of ago. Ho was a painter, and residing at Froenmn’s Bay. It is believed ho was a passongor by tho tram car which ran over him, and that he got off at tho corner of Victoria and Nelson streets, whore tho accident occurred. He was knocked down and dragged about 20 yards.

When extricated, a work that took about 15 minutes, he was found to be dead, the body being terribly mutilated.

A pathetic featuro was that the son of the victim was quite unconscious that it was his father, and assisted to extrieato tho body.
