COLONIAL NAVAL DEFENCE

United Press Association—Copyright LONDON, Juno 8.

Beater’s correspondent at Capetown states that it is understood the Admiralty has agreed to the naval contributions, from the Capo and Natal being spent locally. A portion of the contributions will bo devoted to the upkeep of tho ships provided by the Admiralty and the rest spent in improvement of defences, and tho re-establishment of the nucleus of a colonial navy composed of submarines > r destroyers. Local legislation is to settle the arrangements and provide for the service of volunteers anywhere abroad.

Dr. Smart, Cape Commissioner of Works, announces that Cape and Nat 1 will henceforth act jointly as if th- volunteers of’ the two colonies were a Federal force.
