Press Association. DUNEDIN, last night. John Williams, a widowei*, aged 73, was found dead in bed this afternoon. Death is supposed to have been from natural causes. The surroundings were dirty and squalid. A Post Office bank book with a credit balance of £l4O was found in the house.
At a meeting of the Otago League to-day it was decided to keep the organisation in existence, but bringing it into action only if occasion should arise calling for its support. A standing committee will act if necessary in this direction.
The Minister of Lands has written to Mr. Mackenzie, M.H.R., stating that the position of the State limekilns at Shag Valley is such that they will either have to be sold or closed. AVESTPORT, last night.
A miner named John Leece, about 45 years of age, married, with ten jf a family, died in the hospital tonight as the result of a fall of coal in the Westport Coal Company’s Creek mine this afternoon. The deceased was formerly a newspaper proprietor in New South AA’ales.
DUNEDIN, last night. To-day G. H. Parsons, Town Clerk here, was brought before Major Keddeli, S.M., on several informations charging him with misappropriation of moneys'belonging to the Borough Cruneil and Domain Board, also of the Gas Company, of which he was secretary. The various amounts diselt sed by the informations totalled £238. Accused was remanded to Thursday next, bail being allowed in act uspd’s surety of £250 and four sr. reties of £6O each.
