WAIMATA DOG TRIALS

A SUCCESSFUL MEET.

Tho first of what will be an annual meeting of the AVaimata Dog Trial .Club was held oil the 24th and 25th inst. in a paddock kindly lent by Mr Howard Kenway. From its first conception the meet was popular, and although the notice given was short, the entries were numerous, and augur well for the future. Tho club is purely of a local character, and only those living within the scope of the AVaimata mail district are eligiblo to compete. The meeting, as it ought to, had the full support and encouragement of local farmers.

There were two events —1., head, jbfiing back, and hold till judge is la-, tisfied, the distance being half a mile; 11., huntaway straight. For tjhe fist event there were 33 entries, and the prizes were awarded as folfjouU: —lst prize, £4, Mr. \\ r . AVatson’s Chance; 2nd prize, £3, Mr. J. AVatchorn’s Don; 3rd prize, £2, Mr. J. Park’s Chum; 4th prize, £l, Mr. J. Graham’s Sharp. Following were the awards for tho second event: Ist prize, £4, Mr. J. Graham’s (Tweed; 2nd prize, £3, Mr. J. Graham’s Jock; 3rd prize, £2, Mr. Leggett)’s Jack; 4th prize, £l, Mr. AV. R. Young's Taipo.

Special prizes wero given as follows: By Mr. AV. D. Bruco for noisiest huntaway, won by Leggatt’s Jock; Mr. J. Graham for best allround dog, must score 15 points in

each class, won by Dash; Mr. A. R. jAVatson for dog midw'ay on judge’s list class I, won by McLean’s! Reugli; Messrs J. and AV. Bisset for best two dogs, one in each class, won by. J. Graham’s Sharp and Tweed. Mr. George Hawkins, of Huanui station, performed the duties of judge to the satisfaction of all. Mr A. R. AVatson assisted as timekeeper.

In connection, with the meet, a most successful smoke concert was held in the AVaimata Hall on Saturday ovening, when Mr. J. L. Perry , offered a cup to be competed for next year.
