THE NAME OF THE TOWN

A SUGGESTED CHANGE.

A correspondent signing liimsel “Rualiino To Anau,” writes as fo] lows to tho' Editor:—

In reference to the suggested changing, of the name of the Bay, and taking into consideration the muddy, dirty streets, the many unformed and muddy footpaths, the unmetalled and almost impassable roads, tho long and anxious years wo have been waiting for a water supply, the lack of any system of sewerage, the very unsatisfactory state of the harbor not allowing mail boats to enter,® and therefore necessitating very, often during the.summer, and nearly every second trip during the winter, the carrying of both passengers and mails to the next port, a public reading room that is open only from 1.30 in the afternoon, a town clock that is very . often not lit up. at night, and the backward and very' iuiprogressive condition of tho town generally, would it not be more appropriate and read better in our future colonial geographies thus:—“Poverty Town in Gisborno Bay?”
