WORK AND WAGES.

ARBITRATION ACT TO BE AMENDED. Press Association. AUCKLAND, laet night. Interviewed yesterday in regard to the proposed amendment of the Arbitration Act, the Hon. J. A. Millar said : ‘‘l will introduce an amending Bill, the object of which will bo to facilitate settlement of disputes within a few days of tlieir being filed. The exact nature of this amendment I am not yet prepared to state. Then I desire to make the Arbitration Act entirely self-con-tained, so that all cases for punishment will be dealt with by the Arbitration Court alone. This will prevent recourse to the Supreme Court as was done in the case of the slaughtermen’s strike. This strike proved that the law was an efficient one, but I consider it desirable that it he entirely self-contained. Certain other amendemnts which I cannot yet specify will also be proposed.”
